Chile Retail Sales Tumble 12.1% YoY in October
Retail sales in Chile declined 12.1 percent year-on-year in October 2019, after an upwardly revised 1.1 percent fall in the previous month. It was the steepest downturn in retail activity since comparable records began in January 2015, as massive anti-government protests affected spending. Sales fell mostly for new light motor vehicles (-39.3 percent vs -8.5 percent in September); clothing, footwear & accessories (-20.6 percent vs -2.9 percent) and electronic products (-9.3 percent vs 1.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went down 5.1 percent, following an upwardly revised 7.3 percent slump in the previous month. Year-to-date, retail sales shrank 0.8 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

Chile Retail Sales Fall 0.9% YoY in September
Retail sales in Chile decreased 0.9 percent year-on-year in September 2019, following a downwardly revised 1.9 percent rise in the previous month. It as the first decline in retail trade in three months, mainly led by new light motor vehicles (-8.5 percent vs -6.7 percent in August) and clothing, footwear and accessories (-2.7 percent vs 6.1 percent). In contrast, sales rose primarily for light commercial & used motor vehicles (6.3 percent vs 4.0 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 7.1 percent, after a downwardly revised 6.6 percent gain in the previous month. Considering the first nine months of the year, retail trade went up 0.6 percent over a year ago.

Chile Retail Sales Rise the Most in 3 Months
Retail sales in Chile went up 2.3 percent year-on-year in August 2019, following a downwardly revised 1.6 percent gain in the previous month. Sales increased further in spare parts, tires & accessories for automotive vehicles (10.8 percent from 5.8 percent in July); light commercial & used motor vehicles (16.6 percent from 3.6 percent); pharmacy, cosmetics & personal hygiene products (4.4 percent from 1.1 percent); and building materials, tools, hardware & paint (5.1 percent from 1.7 percent). Also, other non-classified sales rebounded (10.4 percent from -4.8 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade jumped 7 percent, after an upwardly revised 1.1 percent fall in the prior month. Considering the first eight months of the year, retail trade rose 0.8 percent over a year earlier.

Chile Retail Sales Rebound in July
Retail sales in Chile rose 1.8 percent year-on-year in July 2019, following an upwardly revised 1.2 percent decrease in the previous month. The largest contributors to the increase in sales were spare parts, tires & accessories for automotive vehicles (11.3 percent vs 3.0 percent in June); electronic products (4.2 percent vs 1.8 percent) and miscellaneous goods (3.2 percent vs 0.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade went down 1.0 percent, after an upwardly revised 6.9 percent slump in the previous month. Considering the first seven months of 2019, retail trade advanced 0.7 percent over a year ago.

Chile Retail Sales Fall 0.9% YoY in June
Retail sales in Chile decreased 0.9 percent in June 2019, following a 3.3 percent rise in the previous month. Main declines in sales were recorded for new light vehicles (-10.3 percent vs -5.1 percent in May) and fuels (-14 percent vs -1.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales tumbled 6.6 percent, after an upwardly revised 6.8 percent growth in the previous month. Considering the first six months of 2019, retail trade advanced 0.5 percent over a year ago.

Chile Retail Sales Growth at 7-Month High in May
Retail sales in Chile rose 3.3 percent year-on-year in May 2019, following a downwardly revised 0.7 percent decrease in the previous month. It was the strongest gain in retail trade since last October, mainly boosted by sales of electronic products (10.2 percent vs 1.4 percent in April); clothing, footwear & accessories (4.3 percent vs -6.2 percent) and spare parts, tires & automotive vehicles accessories (8.1 percent vs 6.2 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales grew 6.7 percent, after a downwardly revised 7.3 percent slump in the preceding month. Considering the first five months of 2019, retail trade grew 0.7 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
